About the Gàidhealtachd
The Gàidhealtachd summer school is dedicated to the exploration of Celtic culture and traditions, and has traditionally been held every year in the first week of January in Whangarei Heads.
The Gàidhealtachd is a vibrant community of families and individuals, and the week offers an excellent opportunity to enrich the experience of Celtic culture through workshops, talks, ceilidhs, games and more.
The school until 2023 has taken place at the beautifully situated and culturally significant Whangarei Heads School site. We hold ceilidhs, activities and often visit other sites of interest in the Whangarei Heads, an area rich in cultural history. At the conclusion of the school we hold a community concert with the tutors of the Gàidhealtachd, though we will not be able to do this for 2024.
Throughout the year we also maintain contact through regular events and gatherings organised by members of the the Gàidhealtachd community.
We are continuing the develop this site so it can act as an information portal for history of our summer school, a source of links and resources, and much more. Keep checking back!
